Is Prowlr free?
Yes. Discovery, events, and fully encrypted messaging are free and never paywalled. An optional Plus tier may come later for people who want extras.
Do I need a phone number or email to sign up?
No. You sign in with a passkey — the same Face ID or fingerprint you use to unlock your phone. There’s no password, so there’s no password database to leak.
Can people see exactly where I am?
No. Other people see a rounded, slightly shifted distance, never your coordinates — and your exact location never reaches our servers. You can also hide your pin from the map or go fully invisible with ghost mode.
How is this different from other apps like it?
Same idea — meeting gay men nearby — built differently underneath. Messages, private photos, and shared locations are end-to-end encrypted, so they’re never sitting readable on a server to be mined, sold, or leaked. No ads, no engagement bait.
What happens if Prowlr's servers get breached?
An attacker gets scrambled data they can’t read, plus what’s already public (your main photo, optional display name, event listings). Private messages, private albums, and exact locations are never stored readable on our servers.
How do you moderate without reading my messages?
Public parts — profiles and events — are moderated. Private chats aren’t scanned, because we can’t read them; if someone crosses a line, you can report them, and you choose what to include.
